Testing MUXLAB Quad Audio Balun

Overview
The Quad Audio Balun allows up to four analog line audio signals to be transmitted via unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable in a point-topoint connection. Used in pairs, the Quad Audio Balun allows up to four (4) coax audio cables to be replaced by one (1) Cat5e/6 cable.

Applications
Custom commercial and home audio systems, intercom systems, rental and staging systems, audio-video conferencing systems.

Features & Benefits
✖ Cost-efficient cabling – save up to four (4) cables
✖ 20 Hz to 20 KHz bandwidth for high fidelity
✖ Analog audio up to 1km via Cat5e/6
✖ Compact design for neater wiring

Testing
Inside this little box you will find a canadian made PCB with one RJ45 socket on the cat5 end, and 4 gold plated RCA plugs of good quality. The four transformers adapts audio signal to 100Ohm of cat5. Tested on a spool of 200m. DINTEK CAT6 (E190815 UTP Cat.6 (PVC) UTP, 23AWG, Solid). The results were quite satisfactory. We had no signal attenuation, or high levels of noise.

The following are some audio samples over UTP CAT5 from our tests containing
✖ 4sec. recording of grounded input, +60dB amplificaion.
✖ 4sec. recording over 200m. CAT6 with Balun Installed, +60dB amplificaion.
✖ 4sec. recording over 200m. CAT6 without Balun, +60dB amplificaion.
